A child's first footprint, pressed into a world already full of colour.

A colourful dot-painting in watercolour, given as an archival fine art print.

I painted it for a child being born. I wanted her to have something to mark arriving in the world, proof that the moment she is here everything is possible and everything is full of colour, and that she only has to take a step to have it all. The footprint is that first step, the single black shape held against all the colour, the space she is about to fill.

Spoor is the trace a creature leaves behind, the path already walked. This one is the opposite: the first print, the start of a path rather than the end of one. Take it, and then follow the spoor of others too. Learn, but lead.

It is built the way Prima Materia is, my very first watercolour, laid down dot by dot with a pipette and pigment, warm colour on one side and cool on the other, the whole field on an original just 6 by 10 centimetres.

I made it as a beginning, for a beginning. For a new child, a new life, a first step, there is no other painting of mine I would rather give.

Printed to order on Hahnemühle German Etching, a heavyweight 310gsm mould-made fine art paper, acid- and lignin-free to museum standard, with archival pigment inks. A giclée from an original watercolour by Léna Ruisz, never a mass reproduction, colour-managed to stay true to the original painting. Because every screen shows colour a little differently, what you see on your device may vary slightly from the finished print. Free worldwide shipping, arriving ready to live with. No frame is forced on you, so choose the size that fits your wall.

You are buying the fine art print only. The frame shown in the product image, and any mount, furniture, plants or other props in the photographs, are there to show scale and setting. They are not included in your purchase.
